VietAbroader Circle of Friends
 

Dear VietAbroaders,

It is our great honor to be talking about three of the most committed, creative, and caring VietAbroaders we have ever had.

Just like us, these three individuals have always maintained a perpetually hectic schedule of classes, activities, internships, and jobs. But quite unlike many of us, they have also spent an immeasurable amount of time continuously rebuilding and enhancing VietAbroader ever since they officially stepped on board in the Spring of 2006.

Over the years, they have executed and constantly enhanced numerous initiatives that many of you now know, such as VietAbroader “Passing of the Torch” Conference, VietAbroader Business Conference, VApedia, VAClub, to name a few. You have frequently seen them in the news and at various public VietAbroader events, but little did you know what lies behind the scenes – mostly sweat and tedium. Certainly, the work can and should be very interesting; however, one should not be so naïve either as to think that things always work out in the end. These three individuals have found themselves to be among the very few who were always willing to spend sleepless nights in their college dorm rooms and sacrifice parts of their vacation to keep the VietAbroader engine running.

As you all know, there has always been a lot of discussion about how VietAbroader should include this feature in the forum, organize that event in the summer, and so on. Yet few decide to step up. Truth is, we all have our own personal life to busy ourselves with. Just as it is easy to point the finger, it is hard to lead.

Therefore, it is heart-warming to know that there are people like these three extraordinary individuals, who are always willing to step up and give back, even in the occasional absence of recognition, acknowledgement, and appreciation. The road they chose for themselves was not easy. But the road to change never is, quoting Barack Obama. It is such unconditional commitment that propels the continued growth of VietAbroader.

In conclusion, we would like to announce that the three individuals, also the first ever VietAbroaders, who have been inducted to the VietAbroader Circle of Friends* are: Lê Ngọc Duy Thắng, Lê Bá Nam Anh, and Lê Thu Phương.

Many of us have, directly or indirectly, benefited from their sustained commitment and demonstrated contribution to VietAbroader. Going forward we hope, and firmly believe, that as Friends of VietAbroader, they will stay around as mentors to the Executive Team and senior advisors to various VietAbroader initiatives in the future to ensure that VietAbroader will always be the most special place for young Vietnamese to learn and grow.

*The VietAbroader Circle of Friends ("VCF") is an integrated part of the VietAbroader Organization ("VA"), comprising select former members of the VietAbroader Executive Team and certain distinguished VietAbroaders, whose sustained commitment and demonstrated contribution to VA have meaningfully impacted many young Vietnamese. Each year at the annual review, the VietAbroader Board of Directors (the "Board"), with input from former members of the Executive Team and current members of the VCF, will unanimously elect certain VietAbroader(s) who fit in the aforementioned criteria to the VCF. Members of the VCF have the right, but not the obligation, to continue to serve VietAbroader as mentors to the Executive Team and senior advisors to various VA initiatives in the future.

P.S. Just as you think we are about to run out of exciting news, note that very shortly we will be announcing the brand new VietAbroader Executive Team. But before that, of course, please join us in celebrating the leadership of Thắng, Nam Anh, and Phương. More importantly, if you have any personal anecdotes related to our three musketeers, don’t hesitate to share here :)

Thanks anh Khang và các anh chị trong Board of Directors. Hãnh diện quá đi :P. Anecdote của em với Thu Phương là lần tổ chức VAConf 2006, em nhớ buổi chiều hôm đấy vác đồ từ nhà Phương ra conf để để qua đêm, Phương chơi 1 quả quần đùi hồng ngắn thôi rồi ;)). Tất cả vì VietAbroader :)).

Oh man... sáng nay mở mắt dậy thấy post này của anh Khang xúc động quá T__T

Bờm, sao ông lại biến public appraisal thành public humiliation thế này :))

Nhân dịp này Phương muốn cám ơn rất nhiều bạn tình nguyện viên làm cùng P và Bờm hồi 2006. Dịp này đáng nhớ vì là lần đầu tiên được giao trách nhiệm cao cả. Nhất là Việt Long và Khánh, không nhờ hai người sống mái cùng Phương với Bờm để làm conference chắc không xong ;) còn nhớ đĩa CD VL và Khánh viết thay vì handout là inspiration để làm VApedia sau này ;)

Năm 06 em đi hội thảo vẫn nhớ anh Bờm lên phát biểu keynote address, quoting Martin Luther King làm dân tình ở dưới nghe cũng rạo rực thổn thức :))
Chị Phương thì mặc áo dài hồng & có giọng nói cực kì êm tai dễ nghe, lúc deliver presentations làm mọi người xung quanh em lao xao ôi chị nào mà dễ xương thế :))

Anh nhớ cái năm đầu tiên làm conference đến nhà em Phương để đèo đi lấy đồ. Em ý ngồi đằng sau cứ.. anh ơi ngồi dịch lên em sắp tuột khỏi xe rồi. Chê mình mông to...

Và em nhớ Bờm hồi hè năm vừa rồi 2 anh em nói chuyện làm conf, rất casual ngồi ở bên ngoài nhà hát lớn, Bờm đi đôi dép tổ ong đẹp thôi rồi :-]

Sao em Trang cứ ấn tượng mãi đôi dép tổ ong đấy thế nhỉ :)). Còn ảnh 0, up lên đây cái, nostalgic quá ;))

Ấn tượng chứ, vì chúng mình chả còn kỉ niệm gì cả ngoài đôi dép tổ ong, how sad :(

hồi làm VA vừa rồi nhiều kỷ niệm mà...khi nào lập một topic ngồi kể chuyện làm conf hè vừa rồi để motivate team conf năm nay nhé <3
hồi conf HN hè vừa rồi, lúc mà info session cho phụ huynh, một mình Bờm lên sân khấu tung hứng, không cần slide show, không cần giấy tờ kiểu tư vấn chuyên nghiệp í. (Lại còn đẩy em lên sân khấu bất ngờ nữa :( . Về sau lúc mà tan buổi sáng có mấy bác phụ huynh khen Bờm chững chạc lại còn giỏi nữa. Phổng mũi chưa ;))

Anecdote của mình với hai bạn Bờm và Thu Phương thì toàn humiliation thôi nên là chắc hai bạn hem muốn mình share đâu :"> thôi thì viết vài lời lịch sự nhất vậy :p

Bạn Thu Phương là bạn ý la liếm cái tên Đùi của mình làm mình rất là buồn. Nhờ cái quần đùi hồng của Phương mà cứ lần nào có người gọi nó là Đùi ơi làm mình ngoái cổ ra oan uổng. Nhớ nhất là hồi cấp 3 làm bao trò nghịch ngợm, từ hồi nhảy Latin Ce hehehe đến đợt làm dạ hội, thì từ chuyện bị bảo vệ cắt điện, đuổi khắp trường, rồi trốn vào lớp lôi di động ra làm đèn pin ký mấy nghìn cái vé trong bóng tối, đến lúc làm xong thì cả lũ bốn giờ sáng dọn sân trường, tìm được không dưới 30 cái dẹp ngồn ngang ko đôi ném lên cây, cho đến sáng ngồi bàn nhau làm sao để không bị đình chỉ - các bạn chỉ bị dọa đình chỉ, mình thì lúc ấy bị đuổi học xừ nó rồi :-j

Bạn Bờm thì kỉ niệm gần đây nhất là tại bạn ý mà hồi ở NYC không hiểu về khách sạn thế nào, chỉ vì cái trò " Mở ngoặc - đóng ngoặc " của bạn ý.
