H.E. Ambassador Le Luong Minh has been serving as the Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the United Nations since January 2004. Concurrently, since December 2008, he has been serving as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. For over 20 years, H.E. Ambassador Le Luong Minh has represented Vietnam at the United Nations and other international organizations. Prior, he taught at the Institute of International Relations and held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1975.

 

"Having just celebrated this year its 30 years of membership of the United Nations and its recent election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Viet Nam is taking an increasingly active role in the work of the biggest international organization in various domains ranging from socio-economic development, disarmament and international peace and security, human rights to UN reform."

Robert Vu has been the Marketing Director of Samsung Electronics Vietnam since 2007, currently overseeing all marketing activities for a thriving $500 million-a-year business with the mission of making Samsung as the most beloved consumer electronics brand in the country.

 

Prior to joining Samsung Electronics in Vietnam, Robert had worked in the financial services / insurance industry for 15+ years, with major financial groups such as Massmutual Life, Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC), Samsung Global Strategy Group, Samsung Life, Samsung Fire & Marine, and Tokio Marine.  His areas of focus included strategy consulting, public auditing, mergers & acquisition, corporate planning and marketing.

 

Although a Vietnamese American, Robert considers himself a global resident, having lived in Vietnam for the first 7 years of his life, New York for more than 22 years, South Korea for 8 years, Singapore for 2 years, as well as extensive working periods in Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and China.

 

Robert obtained his BS from New York University's Stern School of Business and his MBA from Columbia University. He is also a chartered property & casualty underwriter.

Regina Abrami

Abrami's primary area of expertise is comparative political economy, and her research focuses on the politics of economic development and industrial strategy, with special focus on China and Vietnam. Related projects underway include work on divergent patterns of private sector development in Vietnam and China, the relation between trade policy and business strategy, corporate social responsibility, and most recently, the impact and opportunity of China’s growing presence in emerging markets.

Abrami has taught courses in the MBA, executive education, and doctoral programs, including the required first year course, “Business, Government, and the International Economy.”  She also designed and has taught the second year elective course, “Doing Business in China” and a doctoral course on “Political Economies of Business in the Developing World.”

Abrami earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, where she was both a Reinhard Bendix and John L. Simpson Memorial Fellow.  In addition, she has received support from the Social Science Research Council, Committee on Scholarly Communication with China, Institute of World Politics, and Fulbright.  More recent HBS honors include selection as a Hellman Faculty Fellow (2004-2006) and the Robert F. Greenhill Award (2007-2008).  Abrami speaks both Vietnamese and Mandarin Chinese and is a frequent speaker to the media and the public and private investment communities.  A forthcoming work was earlier featured in The Economist (June 2008).

Nguyen Hoanh Tien has more than 10 years of experience in high-tech industry, ranging from in technical design, network planning, technical operations, marketing to general management in telecom and data networking both in Vietnam and overseas.  Before joining VinaGame, Tien served at SAP (Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung, working to improve various operation management system aspects for the Center of Excellence, a fast-growing entrepreneurial division of SAP AG and leading the Business Systems Consulting group to initiate and facilitate business innovations, process redesign and strategic application of IT for major U.S., European and Middle East corporations.

Tien has a BS degree from Hanoi University of technology, an MS degree from the University of Vermont, and an MBA from Emory University, USA.  He is co-founder of US Guide (US Study Guide) and Connek (Converge Network Technology Group), two major volunteer and professional networks; and is a member of the Advisory Board for Circle of Friends (Vong Tay Be Ban), a volunteer charity group.  Tien has also provided personal development coaching for many young Vietnamese business and technology talents since 1999.

Phuong began his career at FPT Corporation as a developer after having received his Master of Science in Computing Science and Networking from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1991. Prior to the establishment of FPT Software, Phuong worked as a Project Manager and then a Group Leader for FPT Corporation’s subsidiary (FPT Software Solutions). He was appointed Deputy Managing Director of FPT Software in 1999 and obtained an Executive MBA from the University of Hawaii in 2003

Marco Breu is the Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company, Inc. Thailand and also head of our Vietnam representation. Marco is a Swiss national and joined McKinsey in 1999 in Zurich. He moved to Asia in 2002 and was first based in Seoul, then in Singapore covering Southeast Asia, and now in Bangkok.

 

In his 10 years as a consultant, Marco has served over 30 different companies in 8 industries in over 20 countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

 

His main areas of expertise are banking, public sector, and infrastructure. Marco covers market entry strategies, growth strategies, and a broad range of operational topics including lean and six sigma operational improvements. Prior to joining McKinsey, Marco worked in the asset management industry.

 

He is also a part-time lecturer at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the National University of Economics in Vientiane, Laos as well as one of the organizers of an entrepreneurship program for the Mekong region.

 

He has a Masters Degree of Economics from the University of Berne, Switzerland.

 

Marco is married and has a young daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys backpacking, exploring remote areas, scuba diving, and piloting small Cessna planes.

Frederick Burke has over 20 years experience practicing in the area of corporate law. He served as the Practice Group Leader of the Firm’s Global WTO & International Trade Practice Group from 2006 to 2007, and has been ranked by Chambers Global as a leading lawyer in both Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions and International Trade for three successive years. Mr. Burke has also been recommended in more categories than any other lawyer in Vietnam by PLC Which Laywer? in 2008. He is currently a member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Administrative Reform in Vietnam.

 

Mr. Burke is highly regarded for his work on foreign investment projects in Vietnam and China for key players in the property development, trade, IT/C, and project finance areas. He provides practical advice in the related issues of securities, finance, tax, labor, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution. Mr. Burke also has extensive experience in working closely with Vietnamese legislators and law drafters on the many new laws and decrees that have been introduced to integrate Vietnam into the global economy

Tony Ngo works for Bridger Capital, where he oversees investments in Vietnam. In this role, Tony leads investments in state-owned, private, and publicly-owned companies in Vietnam. In 2007, Tony interned for Texas Pacific Group (TPG), evaluating Vietnam investment opportunities for TPG's family of private equity and hedge funds. Prior, Tony worked for CIVC Partners, a private equity firm for whom he evaluated, structured, and executed leveraged investments across a variety of industries in North America. Tony began his career as an investment banking analyst with Morgan Stanley and Jefferies Broadview.

From 2005-2006, Tony served as the President of the Union of North American Vietnamsese Student Associations (uNAVSA), overseeing the conceptualization and implementation of the Collective Philanthropy Project and uNAVSA's early regional expansion efforts. Since 2006, Tony has served as the Chairman of the Board of Advisors.

Tony holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. In addition, Tony graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in economics and a M.S. in industrial engineering. Currently, Tony resides in Saigon but commutes frequently to the U.S.

Tran Minh Ngoc Thu is a senior auditor at KPMG in New York. Thu was selected to relocate from KPMG Vietnam to KPMG USA for an 18-month international rotation. Prior to moving to New York in 2009, Thu spent three years in KPMG Vietnam, overseeing audit engagements as a Senior Auditor. During her time in college, Thu interned in the Corporate Finance department of VinaCapital, where she wrote analytical reports on potential investment targets and researched on multiple industries.

 

A member of the Certified Public Accountant Association (CPA) in Australia, Thu holds a B.A. from the University of Economics and a Diploma of English for Banking and Finance from the University of Banking. Thu was one of the Top 30 Excellent Candidates of the "Biz English 2005 - Contest," which was held for 1,400 candidates from five universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
